En aquel tiempo, la liebre era conocida en todo el bosque por su agilidad y rapidez. Se jactaba ante cualquier animal que se cruzara en su camino, desde los pájaros que volaban de rama en rama hasta los insectos que trabajaban incansablemente en el suelo del bosque. Todos habían escuchado alguna vez la risa burlona de la liebre, quien no perdía oportunidad para destacar su propia superioridad.
