El gato con botas es un cuento popular europeo y recopilado por Charles Perrault en 1695, y después de más de 300 años sigue estando de actualidad.
Todos conocemos las aventuras del Gato con botas y el Marqués de Carabás y no cabe duda de que es uno de los cuentos clásicos que más atrae a los niños.
No en vano se hizo hace no demasiado tiempo una película en la que él era el protagonista de una especie de historia paralela a Shreck.

Once upon a time, in a small village, lived a miller who had three sons. When he passed away, he left each son an inheritance. The eldest received the mill, the second the donkey, and the youngest son received nothing but the family cat. Distraught, the youngest son lamented his fate, thinking that while his brothers could earn a livelihood, he would surely starve. The cat, overhearing him, said, «Do not despair, my master. Give me a sack and a pair of boots, and I shall make our fortune.» Puss filled the sack with carrots and laid it open in a rabbit clearing. Soon enough, a rabbit hopped in, and Puss quickly closed the sack, bringing the rabbit to the king as a gift from his master, whom he called the Marquis of Carabas. The king was pleased and thanked the Marquis, without knowing who he really was. Puss repeated this trick several times, always bringing game to the king, saying it was from his master. One day, Puss learned that the king and his beautiful daughter would be riding by the river. Quickly, he told his master to bathe in the river and then hid his clothes. As the king’s carriage approached, Puss cried out, «Help! The Marquis of Carabas is drowning!» The king recognized the cat who had brought him so many gifts and ordered his guards to help. Puss told the king that robbers had stolen his master’s clothes. The king promptly offered a fine suit from his own wardrobe. Dressed as a nobleman, the youngest son joined the king in the carriage. As they rode, Puss raced ahead, reaching a grand castle owned by a cruel ogre. Puss challenged the ogre to transform into a mouse. The ogre, wanting to show off, did so. Quick as a flash, Puss pounced and ate him. When the king arrived, Puss announced the castle as the home of the Marquis of Carabas. Impressed and grateful, the king offered the hand of his daughter to the young man. The youngest son, now the Marquis of Carabas, married the princess, and they all lived happily ever after, all thanks to the clever cat with boots. Había una vez, en un pequeño pueblo, vivía un molinero que tenía tres hijos. Cuando falleció, dejó una herencia a cada uno. Al mayor le correspondió el molino, al del medio el burro, y al más joven sólo le tocó el gato de la familia.
Afligido, el hijo menor lamentó su destino, pensando que mientras sus hermanos podrían ganarse la vida, él seguramente moriría de hambre. El gato, escuchando sus lamentos, dijo: «No desesperes, amo mío. Dame un saco y un par de botas, y te haré rico.»
Intrigado y algo divertido, el hijo menor reunió lo último de su dinero y compró los objetos solicitados. El gato se puso las botas, luciendo bastante elegante, y se dirigió al bosque con el saco.
Llenó el saco con zanahorias y lo dejó abierto en un claro donde solían aparecer conejos. No pasó mucho tiempo antes de que un conejo saltara dentro, y el gato cerró rápidamente el saco, llevando el conejo al rey como un regalo de su amo, a quien llamó el Marqués de Carabás.
El rey quedó complacido y agradeció al Marqués, sin saber realmente quién era. El gato repitió este truco varias veces, siempre llevando caza al rey, diciendo que era de su amo.
Un día, el gato supo que el rey y su hermosa hija pasarían cerca del río. Rápidamente, le dijo a su amo que se bañara en el río y luego escondió su ropa. Cuando se acercó la carroza del rey, el gato gritó: «¡Socorro! ¡El Marqués de Carabás se está ahogando!»
El rey reconoció al gato que le había traído tantos regalos y ordenó a sus guardias que ayudaran. El gato informó al rey que unos ladrones habían robado la ropa de su amo. El rey ofreció de inmediato un traje fino de su propio guardarropa.
Vestido como un noble, el hijo menor se unió al rey en la carroza. Mientras viajaban, el gato se adelantó, llegando a un gran castillo propiedad de un cruel ogro. El gato retó al ogro a transformarse en un ratón. El ogro, deseoso de presumir, lo hizo. Rápido como un rayo, el gato saltó y lo devoró.
Cuando llegó el rey, el gato anunció el castillo como la morada del Marqués de Carabás. Impresionado y agradecido, el rey ofreció la mano de su hija al joven.
El hijo menor, ahora el Marqués de Carabás, se casó con la princesa, y todos vivieron felices para siempre, todo gracias al astuto gato con botas.
Y así, El Gato con Botas se convirtió en una leyenda, simbolizando el poder transformador del ingenio y el coraje.
